What to Expect

At Trinity, we gather for the purpose of worshipping “by the book,” putting to use various components of worship found in the Scriptures. These principal elements include: prayer, singing, reading and preaching the Bible, the sacraments (baptism and the Lord’s Supper), and the giving of offerings. If you want to see our preaching style, check out the Sermon below from one of our Sermon Series on the Eighth Chapter of Book of Romans.

Liturgy

From the moment you step through the doors at Trinity Church, we want you to encounter the beautiful gospel of Jesus Christ.

That's why each section of our services are designed to move you closer and closer to our Savior's cross.

Sunday mornings begin with a call to worship which build into a reflective time of confession and pardon. To hear how God speaks into our lives, we turn to his word through the sermon followed by a time of corporate, covenant renewal where we together declare the essentials of our Christian faith and take the Lord's Supper.

We end our services with a response of praise and by receiving again God's good blessings for his people.

These times together serves to remind us that God has made sinners like us, saints called to be like him. That is why Sunday mornings at Trinity are, and will always be, about the gospel.

Helping Parents Raise Kids Who Love Jesus

Trinity Kids is built around a simple concept: Jesus is king. Each Sunday, your child will learn the Bible and how it relates to Jesus in an age-appropriate way. The lessons are fun and approachable and taught by committed volunteers and staff who serve Jesus by serving you and your kids.

During our Sunday service we provide classrooms and a nursery to children from ages six months through 5th grade.

If this is your first time joining us, we would recommend that you come ten minutes early or so to get them checked in.

If you would rather keep your kids with you for the service, you are more than welcome to do so.

What to Expect

When you walk in the door, you’ll see signage directing you to the Trinity Kids check-in area. Or you can ask one of the many volunteers serving that Sunday to direct you.

At the check-in area, you’ll be greeted by a volunteer or staff member who will help you register your children on our church software called Planning Center.

You’ll be handed a sticker with your name, your child’s name, what class your child is in, and a pager that corresponds to the number on that sticker.

Security

Security is important to us, so we have volunteer security officers near kids spaces, and when you drop off and pick up your child, we’ll make sure the numbers on your pager and your child’s sticker match before admitting or dismissing them to or from class. After admitting your child to class, you can grab a cup of coffee or tea and head into worship.

General FAQs

Where do I park?

map@2x.png

You can park in the neighborhood streets but we would prefer if you use one of the two designated parking lots highlighted above. This would allow our neighbors to have their parking open and help us be a good witnesses to them.

What should I wear?

Our worship services are pretty casual. Some people dress up a bit, while many others simply wear jeans and a t-shirt. Our belief is that God cares much more about the condition of our hearts than our external appearance. If you join us for a service, please feel free to dress however you feel comfortable.

FAQ for Parents

When does nursery/child care start and end?

The nursery/child care opens at 9:50 AM on Sunday mornings, 10 minutes prior to the beginning of the worship service. Parents are asked to pick-up the children within 10 minutes of the end of worship service. For other events where nursery/child care is provided, the nursery/child care will follow a similar pattern.

How does the sign-in and sign-out system work?

In brief, when a parent drops a child off to the nursery, they will receive a sticker with a number on it. That number corresponds with the sticker placed onto the child’s clothing. Parents are asked to turn in their sticker when they return to pick their child up.Classrooms for ages 4-10 must be signed in/out by the same adult.

Will my child be given a snack?

Due to the increase in food allergies dietary restrictions for children, strict adherence to snack guidelines are necessary to ensure the safety of all children. At this time, children are given Honey Nut Cheerios which are dairy- , gluten- , and nut-free. They are also provided water. If a parent would like to give a snack to their child based on preference, they may remove the child from the nursery while she or he is eating. Parents should communicate all special considerations for their children, especially allergies.Snack is not provided for ages 7-10 classroom but they may be offered a snack from leftover continental breakfast items provided by our hospitality team. Please notify your child’s teacher of any concerns.

What if my child has allergies or other special needs?

The nursery/child care staff will make every effort to accommodate the needs of children so long as they are able to provide a safe environment. Parents should communicate all special considerations for their children.

What if my  child gets hurt or is unconsolable?

If a child is noticeably ill or injured, the parent (or responsible party) will be contacted immediately. If ill, the child will be separated from the other children until the parent arrives to remove the child from the nursery/child care. TNT members are not authorized to administer medication of any kind. If a child is inconsolable (15 minutes of nonstop crying) the parent will be contacted immediately. Under no circumstances will the child be allowed to “cry her or himself out.” If a child is disruptive (e.g. hurting  other children or unresponsive to caregiver redirection), the parent of the child will be contacted immediately.

How many caregivers are in the nursery? How are they qualified?

No less than 2 workers are always present in the nursery/child care. At least one of the two workers must be a woman. The ratio for caregivers to children is 1:5 in the nursery and 1:7 for ages 4-10. All caregivers are 18 years of age or older, have received a background check, are members of Trinity Portland, and have been approved by Trinity’s leadership.

Can I stay in the nursery with my child?

Unless a parent is breastfeeding, it is expected that parents who are not childcare approved will minimize their time in the nursery as they have not been approved by the church for this ministry.

Do you change diapers or take children to the bathroom?

Caregivers are not allowed to change diapers or toilet children in the nursery. When diaper changing or toileting is necessary, parents or the responsible party will be contacted in a timely fashion by the TNT. Children in classrooms for ages 4-10 are taken to the bathroom in groups and go into their stalls alone.
